Receiving President Kunz #87
Whats good family,
Love you all so much!! I think about and pray for you guys daily... crazy to think my mission will be over soon. Oh how time flies!
This week we were able to receive our new mission president, President Kunz and his family! How lucky are we to get to learn from and serve with not 1 but 2 men of outstanding spiritual and moral character. During his first day we had MLC and an all mission zoom call where he got to introduce himself and get acquainted with the mission.
President Kunz is a confident, fun, and energetic guy. He served in Mongolia 17 years ago. He's back with his wife and 3 children, ready to serve! Today we had a long meeting with him to help him get up to speed. After about 2 hours of planning and discussing he turns to us and says... let's watch a talk from Elder Kearon. We watched his half hour address to mission leaders haha. Following that meeting, we scheduled his interviews and he proceeded to do 5 hours straight of missionary interviews and a baptismal interview - insane.
Funny story - I was trying to compare a shepherd (which mongolians know a lot about) to Jesus for our investigator Jawkhlanbayar. For context Jawkhlanbayar has a hard time learning so I thought this example might help. I turned to him and asked "Why do shepherds herd their sheep?" and He responds "So they can eat, drink, and live"... I thought to myself "okay, I like where this is going". To which I asked another question "Why would a shepherd want them to eat and drink?" to which he responded "So they can eat them" 😂 For some reason in my mind I thought shepards only herd sheep because they love them haha.
Spiritual thought -
The highest in man is neither his intellect nor his imagination nor his reason; all are inferior to his will, and indeed, in a grand way, dependent upon it: his will must meet God’s—a will distinct from God’s, else there is no harmony possible between them. Not the less, therefore, but the more, is all God’s. For God creates in the man the power to will, His will.... (Christ's teachings are) full of urges to understand. Our whole life, to be life at all, must be a growth in understanding. What I cry out upon is the misunderstanding that comes from man's endeavour to understand while not obeying. Upon obedience our energy must be spent; understanding will follow. - George MacDonald
"Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death" 2 Nephi 2:27
Love, Elder Bateman
