The Power of Music #48
Hi,
I want to share a quick story. 6 years ago my cousin Christian was leaving on a mission. There was a big farewell party where family and guests gave advice to the soon to be elder. My dear aunt Heather pulled christian aside (I eavesdropped), she counseled "Never be afraid to use music to invite the spirit when you teach". For some reason this memory has never left my mind.
Today, I had the opportunity to heed Heather's counsel. For our lesson with 3 brothers aged 8, 10, and 13 we opened with a song. We sang "I am a child of God". The oldest brother helped his youngest brother with a learning disability sing along. The 13 year old pointed to lyrics and sang near his brother's ear. I cried as the most loving and tender spirit filled the room.
Sadly, my dear aunt Heather is beset with a terminal illness. But Heather's influence lives on through her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. She has been a light to those whom she surrounds for her entire life. A light of love, faith, and joy. I'm grateful beyond words ability to express to have had aunt Heather in my life.
I am comforted by the knowledge that "in Christ shall all be made alive". We will live again because Christ rose and God lives.
"I will send you Elijah... he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their father"
Love, Elder Bateman
